「降る」(furu) is an intransitive verb used exclusively to describe natural phenomena like rain or snow falling from the sky. It is not used for objects falling. You use the particle "が" to indicate what is falling. For example: 雨が降る。(Ame ga furu.) = It rains / Rain falls.

雨(あめ)や雪(ゆき)などが空(そら)から落(お)ちてくることです。「〜が降(ふ)る」の形(かたち)で使(つか)います。例(れい)：雪(ゆき)が降(ふ)る。
