'On Decadence' (Darakuron) is an immortal essay written by Sakaguchi Ango immediately after World War II in the Showa period, shaking the foundations of Japanese morality and values. While beautiful morals like 'dying beautifully for the nation' or 'maintaining chastity' were forced upon the people during the war, Ango pointed out that defeat had completely collapsed those hypocrisies.
