Otama secretly noticed Okada, a beautiful and intellectual student of Tokyo Imperial University, who passed by her villa almost daily. Okada also noticed Otama's beauty, and though they did not exchange words, by merely exchanging glances, they came to harbor a faint romantic interest in each other.
