One morning, the Buddha, who was walking along the edge of the lotus pond of Paradise, peeked down into the dark 'Hell' at the bottom of the pond. There, a man named Kandata, a notorious thief who had fallen into Hell after committing only evil deeds, was suffering alongside other sinners.
