On a cloudy winter evening, 'I' was riding in a second-class carriage of a train departing from Yokosuka. Exhausted in mind and body, I felt highly displeased to see a rustic country girl enter right before departure. Her shabby clothing and behavior seemed to symbolize the tediousness of life.
