One day, the Buddha was walking alone by the edge of the lotus pond in Paradise. Looking through the bottom of the pond, he could see Hell. Down there, a great thief named Kandata was suffering along with other sinners. Kandata had done nothing but evil, but once in the past, he had saved a tiny spider on the side of the road without killing it.
