Guided by the samurai, Hoichi arrived at a large mansion somewhere. Inside the mansion, it was spacious and adorned with luxurious decorations, but there was hardly any sign of human presence. Hoichi began to play the biwa, feeling as if he were in a dream. When he finished reciting the tragedy of the Tale of the Heike, he heard sobbing voices from somewhere. The samurai commanded Hoichi to perform in the same place again tomorrow night. Hoichi thought that the master of this mansion must not be human.
