'I Am a Cat' (Wagahai wa Neko de Aru) is a representative satirical humor novel of modern Japanese literature written by Natsume Soseki during the Meiji period. It begins with the extremely famous opening line, 'I am a cat. As yet I have no name.' A cat who has no idea where he was born wanders into the house of Chinno Kushami, a middle school English teacher, and gets kept there.
