Jihei believed Koharu's lie and was furious, but later learned the truth behind her cold attitude and the deep love of his wife Osan, who gathered clothes and money to save him. Caught between worldly 'Giri' (social duty/family) and 'Ninjo' (personal human feelings), he realized there was no escape in this world and resolved to commit suicide with Koharu.
