Rather than walking on a predetermined path, Doppo describes the joy of wandering into the deciduous forests of Musashino and strolling along pathless woods as his fancy takes him. Encountering a small stream found by chance, or a single farmhouse standing quietly in the forest, he received the great comfort held by 'untouched nature' left behind by civilizational progress.
