'Musashino' is a masterpiece of modern Japanese literature written by Doppo Kunikida during the Meiji period, serving as a pioneer of naturalism. Through a Western eye of natural observation, Doppo found an incomparable beauty in the deciduous forests of Musashino, which many people previously regarded merely as a wasteland, and portrayed it in fresh, poetic prose.
