'Sweeties for Couples' (Meoto Zenzai) is a masterpiece of modern Japanese literature written by Sakunosuke Oda during the Showa period, humorously and realistically depicting the vitality of Osaka's common people and the lingering relationship between a man and a woman. Ryukichi, a lazy, spoiled son of a cosmetics wholesaler, and Choko, a firm and brave geisha, pushed through surrounding heavy opposition to elope and started cohabitation in the back alleys of Osaka.
