「夏草や 兵どもが 夢の 跡」

During the journey, Basho visited Hiraizumi in Mutsu Province, where the three generations of the northern Fujiwara clan had once boasted great prosperity. Looking at the ruins of Yoshitsune and his loyal retainers, which were completely destroyed by war, Basho composed the deeply sorrowful haiku: 'Summer grasses—all that remains of brave warriors' dreams.' It beautifully captured the sense of impermanence, showing that no matter how much glory they achieved, it vanished like a fleeting dream, leaving only the lush green summer grasses rustling in the wind.
