「行く・訪ねる（相手の場所を訪問する）」「聞き・尋ねる（質問する、話を聞く）」の特別な謙譲語です。目上の人の家やオフィスに行く時や、何かを質問する・教えを請う時などに、自分側の行為を謙遜して表します（例：「明日伺います」「お話を伺いたいです」）。
