踏襲

我々の研究チームは、先行研究で確立された実験方法を（　　）し、さらに発展させることを目指している。

"踏襲" (toushuu) means to follow the methods or policies of a predecessor. It is the most appropriate word for inheriting and following the methods of a previous study. "継承" (keishou) is used for inheriting a position, property, or tradition and is a bit too grand. "継続" (keizoku) simply means to continue, and "追随" (tsuizui) often has a negative connotation of blindly following someone without one's own initiative.

「踏襲」は、先人のやり方や方針をそのまま受け継いで、それに従うことを意味する。先行研究の方法を受け継ぐという文脈に最も適している。「継承」は地位や財産、伝統などを引き継ぐ場合に使い、やや大げさ。「継続」は単に続けること、「追随」は主体性なく他人に従うという否定的な意味合いで使われることが多い。
