'Lemon' (Lemon) is a short story written by Kajii Motojiro between the Taisho and early Showa periods, vividly depicting the human senses and the overcoming of melancholy. The protagonist, a young man, was suffering from tuberculosis and was plagued daily by poverty and an undefinable, heavy 'melancholy' (yūutsu) inside his heart.
