金 (gold) is read with its On'yomi きん, and 継 (to join/repair) with its Kun'yomi つぎ, forming きんつぎ. 金は not read かね here. It is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum.
