幽霊(ゆうれい)ではなく、ただの宿の(やどの)飼い猫の(かいねこの)影(かげ)だったこと

Their journey was a continuous series of troubles from the very start. Wherever they went, they failed trying to show off, or almost got seriously hurt imitating others. For example, at an inn in a post town, they caused a huge uproar screaming 'A ghost appeared in our room!', and when the two hid trembling in the closet, it turned out to be just the shadow of the inn's pet cat—filled with such incredibly silly episodes.
