'Kwaidan: Hoichi the Earless' is a globally renowned short story written in the Meiji period by Greek-born Japanologist Lafcadio Hearn (Yakumo Koizumi), vividly depicting the eerie haunting of the spirits of the Heike clan who perished at the Battle of Dan-no-ura. Hoichi, a blind Biwa player living at Amidaji Temple, was unrivaled in chanting the 'Tale of the Heike' to the lute, especially his sorrowful recitation of Dan-no-ura, which never failed to draw tears.
