ともなれば

彼が総理大臣___、この国は大きく変わるだろう。

'〜ともなれば' expresses a hypothetical condition: 'if it were to become the special situation of...'. On the other hand, '〜ともなると' often describes a situation that has already been realized or is certain to be realized: 'once it actually becomes the special situation of...'. Since the sentence ends with the speculative '〜だろう' (probably), the hypothetical '〜ともなれば' is more natural here.

「〜ともなれば」は、「もし〜という特別な状況になったら」という仮定の条件を表します。一方、「〜ともなると」は、「〜という特別な状況に実際になると」という、すでに成立したか、成立が確実な状況を表すことが多いです。文末が「〜だろう」という推量であることから、ここでは仮定の「〜ともなれば」の方がより自然です。
