Describes making a strenuous effort or doing something with utmost diligence, often in a difficult situation. Usually used adverbially with 〜に (懸命に). (一生懸命に努力する様子や、必死になって物事に取り組む様子を表します。多くは「懸命に」と副詞的に使われます。)
