決定的なニュアンスの違い・使い分け
英語の「look」を日本語で表現する際、見劣り と 見合わせ では明確なニュアンスの使い分けが存在します。
見劣り は主に「みおとり (miotori)（N2）」として使われ、Used to describe something that appears less impressive or of lower quality when compared to others. Often used in the form 「〜に見劣りする」.を指します。
一方、見合わせ は「みあわせ (miawase)（N2）」として使用され、Has two main meanings: 1) to look at each other (interpersonal), and 2) to postpone/cancel an event or plan (often due to unfavorable conditions). (主な意味は二つあります。1) 互いに顔を見ること（人対人）。2) 状況が悪いなどの理由で、予定していた行事や計画を中止・延期すること。)を表現します。アメリカ人学習者が直訳で最も間違えやすいポイントですので、違いを意識しましょう。
