決定的なニュアンスの違い・使い分け
英語の「look」を日本語で表現する際、見下ろす と 見合わせ では明確なニュアンスの使い分けが存在します。
見下ろす は主に「みおろす (miorosu)（N2）」として使われ、Physically looking down from a high place, or metaphorically looking down on someone (with contempt). The latter implies a sense of superiority. (高い場所から下を見る物理的な意味と、他人を軽蔑する意味の比喩的な意味がある。後者は優越感を示す。)を指します。
一方、見合わせ は「みあわせ (miawase)（N2）」として使用され、Has two main meanings: 1) to look at each other (interpersonal), and 2) to postpone/cancel an event or plan (often due to unfavorable conditions). (主な意味は二つあります。1) 互いに顔を見ること（人対人）。2) 状況が悪いなどの理由で、予定していた行事や計画を中止・延期すること。)を表現します。アメリカ人学習者が直訳で最も間違えやすいポイントですので、違いを意識しましょう。
