決定的なニュアンスの違い・使い分け
英語の「look」を日本語で表現する際、侮る と 見合わせ では明確なニュアンスの使い分けが存在します。
侮る は主に「あなどる (anadoru)（N3）」として使われ、Refers to looking down on someone, underestimating their ability, mocking, or making light of a situation/enemy. 一方、見合わせ は「みあわせ (miawase)（N2）」として使用され、Has two main meanings: 1) to look at each other (interpersonal), and 2) to postpone/cancel an event or plan (often due to unfavorable conditions). (主な意味は二つあります。1) 互いに顔を見ること（人対人）。2) 状況が悪いなどの理由で、予定していた行事や計画を中止・延期すること。)を表現します。アメリカ人学習者が直訳で最も間違えやすいポイントですので、違いを意識しましょう。
