The Nuance Difference: "覚えます" vs "忘れる"

In Japanese, both 覚えます and 忘れる are often translated to English but have distinct usages. 覚えます (おぼえます (oboemasu)) represents "to memorize, to remember" (Level: N5) and typically represents Transitive verb. Used for committing something to memory, learning by heart, or recalling something from memory. The object is marked with を.. On the other hand, 忘れる (わすれる (wasureru)) translates to "to forget" (Level: N4) and is used for Transitive verb. Requires an object. Used for forgetting things, appointments, or how to do something.. Mixing these up can sound unnatural to native Japanese speakers!
